Lesson Planning

Before you begin this section, reflect on a time that you taught someone a new skill such as knitting a scarf or perfecting a golf swing.

How did you prepare to teach these skills?

Did you start from scratch, or were you able to rely on other resources such as a book or video?

What materials did you gather together?

How did you decide on these materials?

What qualities did you need as a teacher?

What were some of the key ingredients to your success? Or failure?

As you design your learner-specific lessons, keep in mind that the driving force behind your planning will be your student's long- and short-term goals. Other elements you will need to keep in mind are their learning preferences, motivation to learn, barriers to learning, and skill level.
