Read, Listen, Read, Practice

Read about goal setting
from Introduction to Teaching Adult Literacy from the Office of Literacy and Learning in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada at: http://arthur.merlin.mb.ca/~alce/Section%203.3.htm.

Listen to a short audio file on the National Center for Adult Literacy website to learn about setting the stage for goal setting: www.ncrtec.org/pd/cw/package/audhtml/p18.htm

Then read this short section from the Tutor's Corner, East York Learning Experience at: http://eyle.toronto.on.ca/tutorscorner.htm

Finally, practice goal setting: Use the form from the Real World University website at http://www.rwuniversity.com/ex.cfm?S=2=91. In order to complete the assignment, change the goal of "graduate from college" to "become a tutor in your literacy organization." Keeping the latter goal in mind, fill out the online forms and print out a copy for your own use.

Training Tool: This link will lead you to forms that will help you to set goals with your adult literacy student in a step-by-step format. Go to: www.nald.ca/clr/csa/appx_e.htm to download the forms for later use.
